We are dedicating this thread to identifying and appreciating the most helpful members of the MobilityNigeria community. By this, we mean members who volunteer useful information the most, and who chip in to help others with answers to questions and resolutions to issues.

This includes contributions on both the main site and in the forums.

In case you are not aware, as a member of the MobilityNigeria community, you may send in reviews and news items for publishing on the main site, with full credits to you. Alternatively, you can post them here in the forums by yourself.

Exclusion List
Yom, Dayo and Onome, being members of the Alireta team are excluded from being nominated. We will update the exclusion list as other members of the Alireta team signup and become active as individuals on MobilityNigeria.

Rewards
We are not concluded yet, but we are looking at having a little something for the Most Helpful Member of each year based on feedback from this thread. We will announce our decision later but feel free to submit your suggestions.

So, go ahead, nominate members and tell us about how they have been of help to you.

Hi forum members,

Instant messaging is one feature that i am very much in love with and i've used different im applications, some are listed below:

Ebuddy
Mig33
Slick
Fring
Palringo
Nimbuzz.

Fring is a very beautiful instant messanger but it has no facebook community connection, slick also has same minus , Ebuddy is anothger good im but the minus is that you cant move the cursor to the middle of a typed text to delete any error made in the process of typing.

What i dont like about palringo is it's black theme, I've not used mig33 enough so I can't really say much.

When I started using im applications, I use to consider ebuddy as the best im application untill recently when i downloaded version 2.2.0 of Nimbuzz for my nokia e63, It's really a beauty to behold.

I believe that any good im application must connect to porpular social network communities and sites that allow for chating (for me facebook and yahoo), it should also have a uesr friendly interphase

Kindly post views on your favourite instant messangers.

Cheers.

There are so many third-party mobile browsers available for use. Most of them are free, and often offer more features than inbuilt ones.

In their quest to fight the free browsing menace, many of the network operator are striving valiantly to make it impossible to use Opera Mini to browse on their network.Zain, mtn. You can generally only use Opera Mini on networks that have blocked OM by using free browsing tricks.

Opera Mini is one of the most widely used Mobile Browsers in the world. It is extremely popular because it saves costs by being one of the browser with the best compression rates). It is also the one mostly used to implement free browsing methods.

What alternative browsers are there for use on Nigeria networks? Which do you prefer and why?

I have used / am using the following browsers, both Java & native versions (in the past):

Jb5, SkyFire, Ozone,TeaShark, UcWeb, Opera, Digia@Web, Bolt.

I find UCweb 7.0 (native) and Opera Mini 5 beta 2 serve my needs most, so I am using them more.

What are you views?

Alireta on "Project JetDroid - Porting Android to the Samsung Jet (GT-S8000) phone"

Here's something interesting that we found on the Google Code website: Project JetDroid, a project to port Android to the Samsung Jet's hardware. The introduction reads:

The Samsung Jét (GT-S8000) is advertised to be smarter-than-smartphone. Unfortunatly the phone software is in some aspects not very smart. The hardware however, is quite capable. Thus nothing is more likely than using an open platform like Android to overcome the obstacles of the original software.

The Jet hardware specifications page on the wiki also sheds some light on the device's RAM: 256 MB RAM (208 MB for CPU + 32 MB for baseband + 16 MB shared between both).

For information purposes, baseband refers to the processor that manages all radio functions e.g. GSM/3G signals, WiFi and bluetooth. These are all under the control of the baseband processor. Effectively, the Jet has 208MB + for running applications.

Sounds like something to keep an eye on.
