MTN Data Modem now N8,500

MTN has reviewed the cost of their 3G USB modems down to N8,500. All bundle packages still cost the same though, but if you have been wanting an MTN USB modem, this is a good time to get it.

  1. (with a whistle raised to my mouth) LET THE COMPETITION BEGIN! -pppppppppphhhhheeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Let the competition begin. With this I know all the network will now start reducing their cost. I used glo prepaid and it was fantastic, I am presently using etisalat and it is still fantastic. i currently disabled the images on both firefox and opera to conserve my bandwidth, and I am using my N70 Nokia phone as a modem.

If you google check the price of data cards (modems) you will be surprised that those sticks cost less than $70. These networks are just feeding fat from us. Well if MTN like let them sell it for N3000, I will never buy an MTN modem, I never enjoyed their service for more than one week out of the more than five months I used them. My advise to everybody in the house “STAY AWAY FROM MTN DATA SERVICE”.

  3. is their usb modem unlocked? can it b used with other networks?

  4. There is no compelling reason to buy a Branded USB Modem. The possible advantage is that the branded ones (whether MTN or not) come preconfigured. Configuring any generic modem is child’s play. In the final analysis, a USB Modem is a USB Modem is a USB Modem is a..

It is like buying Emzor Paracetamol instead of any other generic painkiller. You just pay for the ‘name’. The choice is yours..

  5. Branded modems can always be unlocked. It’s all about knowing how to unlock them. I finished my 3GB quota with GLO and I’m using MTN now and it’s EXCRUCIATINGLY SLOW though I managed to download as much as 625MB last nite from 10pm to 5am today.

  6. Why did’t they do this last month when i bought mine, i feel cheated! MTN has done it again, they have finished me. The only way they can make me happy is to introduce a 500 Naira 3 Gig a month bundle

  7. Now with whistle sounded, the realistic tactic will be the reduction in data tariff. Reducing modem cost is cosmetic if you ask me. Someone said modem costs 70 dollars. At N150 to the dollar its cost abroad is over 10,000 naira.

I reckon some real competition may commence in 2011 when Main One cable company would have hooked providers who may have, by then, exhausted long term contracts with their existing bandwidth providers. Interesting months are up ahead.
